Automated Tumor Spheroid Formation and Preclinical Drug Testing on epMotion® 5073t
This collaboration project between the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and Eppendorf aims to improve treatment strategies for colorectal carcinoma by using automated liquid handling and 3D cell cultures. Colorectal carcinoma is one of the most common cancers, but the success of therapy is limited due to drug resistance. This necessitates the exploration of novel and more effective therapeutic approaches. An automated workflow has the potential to revolutionize drug testing by providing increased accuracy, speed, and standardization, ultimately resulting in high-quality data.
In this talk, we introduce the configuration and methods for automated tumor spheroid generation using the epMotion 5073t platform. The spheroids then were used for preclinical drug testing, and the viability and metabolism after treatment was assessed utilizing an automated cell-based assay. Automated cell seeding and compound testing with epMotion significantly reduces the workload required for routine procedures and consistently generates reproducible results.
